5 Timeless Trends to Build Your Style Confidence

In fashion, we can get caught up in what’s hot and what’s the “must have” of the season, but we can’t over look the pieces in our closet that stand the test of time! The timeless pieces that you can feel confident and comfortable in for all seasons.

Here are our 5 must have timeless trends that you can wear for years and still look like you are on top of your fashion magazines and ones that will keep you feeling youthful and stylish.

1. The Fedora

Aaah, the Fedora hat. If you know me, you’ve seen me many times in my numerous fedora hats. Whether you are wearing the natural straw version for Spring/Summer or the felted wool for Fall/Winter you can’t go wrong with this timeless look. It’s sophisticated, suave and I promise, you will get compliments a plenty. The key is in selecting one that doesn’t sit too tall on your head. The top edge needs to be in proportion to your face. A good tip for dressing to the season, you can clip on an accessory to the ribbon of the hat to spunk it up for each wear such as a vintage brooch or flower pin.

2. The Spectator

These shoes became popular in the 20’s and 30’s and to this day are timeless. The classic spectator is always black and white, and whether you opt for the flat shoe or a high heel, you can complete an outfit by highlighting this shoe. Depending on the season, I have seen these in fun color combos too, which is a cool twist on the spectator. If you want to learn a bit more about the trend, you may find this definition quite entertaining!

3. Leopard print (pumps, caplet, belts, gloves)

Leopard print anything is very close to my heart. I own a gorgeous pair of leopard Bergdorf Goodman high heels, a caplet, a calf length coat, a skinny belt, a clutch, several workout headbands as well as a chaise couch. And I LOVE each of these items any time of the year. Shopper beware as there are many bad versions of leopard print out there but when you find a tasteful one, run to the cashier, they are hard to find, in my opinion! The natural coloration of leopard is tasteful and wearable, I personally, am not a fan of colored leopard i.e. red/pink/green. As the spectator can do, your leopard piece can be the highlight to your outfit. A Little black dress (LBD) with the skinny leopard belt or a trouser pant with the leopard heel. Classy, sultry and timeless.

4. Cowboy boots

At one point in my life I had the perfect brown, black, green and red pair of cowboy boots. In high school, I made the mistake of sending a few pairs to Goodwill only to discover the trend to wear the cowboy boot came back around when I was in college. That was an “AHA” moment for me in the realization that fashion trends generally circle back around over time. Black and chartreuse green have found their way back into my closet and will remain close to my heart (and foot) until I can pass them down to my daughter. Wearing the cowboy boot with a dress and bare legs has always been a favorite look. Of course, completing your weekend jeans look with your cowboy boots never goes out of style in my opinion.

5. Red lips

I was on the search for the perfect red lip for many years. Then one day, a young woman walked into my boutique wearing the exact red I always thought would work for most complexions as well as my own. She shared with me that she too had been on the same hunt. Her secret was Russet Moon lipstick by Chanel with Sienna lip liner. The technique to applying the red lip is to start with a lip liner all around the edge of your lips and then fill in the entire lip before applying the lipstick. This will keep your sexy red lips going strong for hours. Julie Hewett also has a great red Coco Noir. One of my favorites is Cruella by NARS in the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.
