How To Stick to Your Fitness Resolution
The new year is here and despite last years good intentions, for some of us, so is your fitness resolution. We’re all guilty of not staying committed to our goals and promises in the upcoming year. So how do you stick to your New Year’s resolutions this year? We’ve come up with 3 helpful tips on how you can stick to your New Years resolutions this year!
1. Start small.
Make resolutions that you think you can keep. For example, if your goal in the new year is to exercise more, schedule two to three days a week to just get moving! Whether walking, jogging, yoga or going to the gym, any type of movement is the first step. If your goal is to eat healthier, try replacing dessert with something else you enjoy, like fruit or yogurt. Work towards your bigger goals by making small changes/habits at a time.
2. Don’t beat yourself up.
Remember that minor hiccups happen when reaching your goals, and they are completely normal! Don’t give up or feel guilty because you ate a brownie and broke your diet, or skipped the gym for a week because you were busy. Balance is important, recover from your mistakes and get back on track.
3. Ask for support.
Consider joining a support group to reach your goals, such as a workout class at your gym or family and friends as a workout buddy. Working with others that share your goals, makes the journey to a healthier lifestyle that much easier and less intimidating. If you feel uncomfortable in the gym or aren’t sure where to start on your own, consider seeking professional help from a personal trainer at your gym. They can offer strategies and plans to attain your goals and measure progress, as well as help changing unhealthy behaviors.
