Unfolding Slow Fashion - What Is It and How To Embrace It

What is slow fashion?

Slow Fashion is an awareness and approach to fashion that focuses on sustainability. This philosophy includes: buying secondhand clothes, redesigning old pieces, creating smarter shopping habits, and buying garments that last longer.

Our stylists put together a few principles you can start implementing today to make an impact in your closet:

6 Slow Principles to Follow Today

  1. Invest in quality over quantity: Appreciate and understand the lifespan of your clothing - whether secondhand or new - by purchasing high-quality clothing that will last from season to season. Consider the “cost-per-wear” not simply the initial cost.

  2. Expand your wardrobe: Choose items that can be styled with many existing pieces in your closet. They should be able to serve different occasions – make your clothes work as hard as you do! Our rule? It should pair with at least 3 items in your closet, not including denim pieces.

  3. Learn your silhouette: Chances are if you don’t feel good wearing something, it’s because it doesn’t fit right. Purchase only clothes that flatter your unique silhouette and you feel comfortable in, or comfortable altering to fit in a way that works. Don’t know what your body type and silhouette is or what cuts work for you? We can help with that.

  4. Discover your personal style: Take the time to discover your own personal style and you’ll make purchases that reflect you!

  5. Repurpose: Give your clothing a second chance. Whether it’s mending, altering, passing along to a friend or donating.

  6. Understand the difference between need & want: Knowing what’s in your closet and identifying any gaps will help you create smarter shopping habits. Create a shopping list of items that you are missing and maybe an item or two that you’ve been dying to buy to make your shopping experience more efficient (and fun!).
